Can’t afford your timeshare anymore?

Are you struggling to afford your timeshare? You may have been finding that the purse strings have been pretty tight over recent months and as we near the end of October it’s fair to say that Christmas spending is only just around the corner. This time of year can be incredibly expensive. With household heating and electric bills increasing over the winter months as the temperature gets colder, not to mention all the extra spending over the festive period, it’s no wonder that the thought of your timeshare maintenance bill arriving at your front door may be leaving you with a feeling of dread. It may be that the thought of dealing with your unwanted timeshare is overwhelming, and you don’t know how to begin, but, it is imperative that you act quickly to leave your timeshare before your yearly fees increase yet again.

Your annual fee will be rising year on year, and this can sometimes rise at a disturbingly fast rate. Even though you could possibly comfortably cover the costs of your timeshare when you first signed up to your contract, in life our circumstances can change in an instant. Perhaps your wage has stayed the same while the annual fee has risen, or perhaps you now have different priorities in your life which mean that you simply can’t afford your timeshare. Whatever your personal situation, we understand how distressing it can be to be in a tight financial position with no clear escape route.

It may be the case that you are eligible to give your timeshare back to the resort you purchased it from so, this is an option worth considering. One idea is to try to request a full breakdown of your fee cost and what it is actually being spent on. Although this won’t lead to your fees being reduced – at least you will know where all your money is going each year, and it could put you in a better-placed position to argue your case later on as you can question any spending that seems out of place. You should also consider trying to appeal to them to explain your financial situation – enclose a full breakdown of your incoming funds vs your outgoings to explain why you can’t afford your timeshare fees at the moment. The unfortunate fact is, often despite your best, honest efforts, your resort will be very reluctant to allow you to give your timeshare back easily. Think of it this way – it is much easier for them to keep you as a regular source of income paying your maintenance fees for your week rather than them having to drum up a new unsuspecting customer to sign up to the timeshare contract. The resort will prefer to keep you on your timeshare agreement as it makes financial sense to them so, don’t expect handing your timeshare back to be an easy process.

If like many others, going down the route of giving your timeshare back to the company proves unsuccessful, it’s time to enlist the help of an experienced timeshare solicitor. If you can’t afford your timeshare, then you need professional help. A timeshare solicitor can fight to help you leave your timeshare.
